UPDATE: Florida bobcat back on the prowl after recovery

Admin

A Florida bobcat is back in its natural habitat after being nursed back to health by wildlife rehabilitators. The young cat, rescued by Deputy Lopez in Lee County earlier this year, had been struck on the road by a vehicle.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy surely must have had the rare talent of animal whisperer; an animal psychic who communicates with animals. What we mean by that is Deputy Lopez’ unusual ability to perceive information not available to most of us. How many people can pick up an injured bobcat in their arms without suffering a scratch or even worse?

It had been on December 27, when the deputy spotted the injured bobcat. Because of its injuries and perhaps a desire to be comforted, the bobcat was extremely docile and didn’t mind when Deputy Lopez picked him up and held him in his arms as if it was a domesticated kitty.

The bobcat was transported to Blue Pearl Animal Hospital, where it received the medical attention it needed. After a successful recovery, the time came to return the wild feline to its home.

“It’s always rewarding to see an animal heal and be able to go back to where it belongs,” said a spokesperson for the wildlife rehabilitation center involved in the bobcat’s care. Deputy Lopez joined the South Florida Wildlife Center staff as they freed the bobcat back to the forest.

The release process is carefully managed to ensure the animal has the best chance of survival. Wildlife officials typically choose a suitable habitat with ample food and shelter. The bobcat is then released in a safe and controlled manner.

This bobcat’s story serves as a reminder of Florida’s diverse wildlife and the importance of conservation efforts.
