Tiger on the loose in Knoxville – massive search continues

Authorities in Knoxville, Tennessee have launched a massive search of a tiger spotted on Thursday morning in the woods outside of the city.

According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office press release, a deputy reported seeing an animal between 150 to 200 pounds that appeared to be striped come up from a nearby river bank near dense woods and wandering in the Forks of the River Industrial Park. It has not been confirmed the animal is a tiger.

Tiger Haven, a big cat sanctuary is helping in the search for the big cat, however it is not known where the cat had escaped.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency,  the Knox County Sheriff Patrol Units, Animal Control, Air Watch and the Knoxville Police Department Animal Control units are still searching. When found and captured, the cat will be transferred to Tiger Haven.

No zoo animals have been reported missing from the Knoxville Zoo. Their three tigers – Arya, Bashir and Tanvir are safe at the zoo.

There have been a number of unconfirmed sightings in the southeastern part of the county.

If anyone has any information on a missing Tiger or locates the Tiger, please contact the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
