In San Antonio, Texas, a black and white Australian shepherd was a stowaway in a shipment of box cars on a train arriving from Mexico late last week.
According to the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services, the dog dubbed Lana by her rescuers, was discovered hiding in the corner of the rail car. Employees tried to lure her out with bread and water, but she was shaking in fear and just too afraid to move.
No one knows how she even found herself in the situation since the railroad car was completely closed on all four side and the walls were nine-feet high.
Animal Care Officer Tyler Winckler received the call for help and was determined to get this pup to safety. He climbed into the railroad car to assess the dog and see if she was injured. Although she let him pet her, she was not interested in being put on a leash. Officer Winckler called for backup, and Officers Saavedra and Solis helped pull Lana out from the corner with a makeshift harness.
Other than some eye discharge, she appeared to be okay. Lana was transported back to ACS and although she was pretty scared in her kennel, she got adopted the next day!
Live a long and wonderful life Lana.
Many thanks to the officers who helped.
