Florida animal officer rescues stranded dog from swampy alligator marshes

Admin

A frightened dog was more than happy to be rescued last Friday by Lake County Sheriff’s Officer Animal Enforcement Officer Amy Riccio from a swampy alligator infested marshes.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, a call was received asking for help for a dog trapped along Bassville Park clinging to a log. Neighbors in the area reported hearing the dog crying, and were worried the alligators would attack him before help could arrive.

When Officer Riccio arrived, she entered the thick swampy brush and used two 2×4 boards to make a bridge to get to the island where the dog was stranded. It didn’t take long before the scared pup approached her and the officer carried the dog on her shoulders across the makeshift bridge to safety.

The young dog was taken to the Lake County Animal Shelter until his owner can be located. If the owner is not found, it seems he has had multiple adoption offers.

Many thanks to Officer Riccio. You are a hero!
