In Gastonia, North Carolina, a heinous animal cruelty crime occurred during a domestic violence situation police had to deal with; even the most stoic officers at the scene found it difficult not to tear up.
Just one week ago, on a Sunday morning, Chrissy and her team at Forgotten, Now Family Rescue were notified about a puppy that had been stabbed with a knife – the knife still in the back of the innocent puppy struggling to breathe and survive. And even in all her pain, she never growled or snarled, but just looked up at the officers – her big brown eyes begging for help.
The puppy was rushed to an emergency veterinarian hospital in Charlotte where she received life saving care, however she needed the expertise of a higher level trauma center. First, however the knife had to be surgically removed. Besides the veterinarian staff, the devoted rescuers waited hoping that the puppy would survive.
Her name is Clementine, and this little shepherd is a survivor
you are an absolute survivor and the pride i feel when i see you run to me will be a memory I hold fondly.
Upon waking from surgery, Clementine looked up into the face of her rescuer, and despite all the pain and suffering from a human’s abject cruelty, she kissed the woman’s face. The puppy’s abuser had been a woman, and it was feared Clementine would be terrified.
Instead the puppy greeted her with tail wags and kisses. For the next few days, Clementine healed; her sutures soon to be removed.
Now stronger, Clementine has been moved to a foster home with a person who has more time and a quieter place to recover.

For anyone who is wondering what happened to the puppy’s abuser, she was charged with felony animal cruelty. Sadly, she only spent three days in jail and was able to post her $25,000 bail.
Updates to follow.
