It had been on March 17, 2024, St. Patrick’s Day when the Baltimore City Truck Company 5 were notified about a distressed animal apparently abandoned in a huge commercial dumpster at Kirk and Bonaparte Avenues. Rescued was an adorable shepherd puppy, with a fighting spirit and a big appetite who has captured hearts in Baltimore after the underweight puppy was saved from the commercial dumpster.
According to the Baltimore City Truck Company 5 Facebook page, upon arrival the firefighters discovered the whimpering puppy beneath the trash. “It was awful to find such a young pup left alone and malnourished. The weather has been chilly, and she wouldn’t have lasted long exposed in the dumpster,” the post explained.
Firefighters to the Rescue
The crew quickly retrieved the shivering pup and administered first aid. When examined at a nearby vet, the puppy was underweight, but she seemed otherwise healthy for her age.
From Dumpster to Hero’s Arms
News of the abandoned puppy spread quickly, and the firefighters at were inundated with calls from people interested in adopting her. The puppy was taken to Knine Rescue, however one of the firemen decided to keep the lucky survivor close to home and officially adopted her as their station mascot. The firefighters have named her Patty; a nod to the Irish holiday on which she was found.
A New Leash on Life
Patty is thriving in her new firehouse home. They shower her with love and ensure she gets the care she needs.
The Baltimore County Fire Department Engine 33 and Truck 5 added:
We would like to give a big shout out and thank you to Knine Rescue out of Montgomery County Maryland. They responded to the station yesterday, had her assessed and brought her back with a bunch of goodies! Thank you!
