In Collier County, Florida, a man has been charged with multiple felonies of animal cruelty and fighting after authorities say he operated a dog and rooster fighting operation out of his home.
According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, injured roosters and pit bulls were rescued from the home of Rafael Del Valle Jomarron, 40, where an empty pool had been used as a fighting pit. Six female bull terriers, one hound dog, two male bull terriers and a rooster with severe injuries to his chest and back were removed. One of the dogs had 249 scars and wounds.
A report from Wesh.com stated three of the dogs were pregnant, including one with a severe injury to her chest. Detectives also found anabolic steroids and performance enhancing drugs.
An investigation began on June 9 when deputies discovered several dogs with injuries in metal cages at Del Valle Jomarron’s home. Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said everyone involved in the investigation has worked tirelessly to rescue the dogs and arrest the person responsible for their abuse.
“These innocent animals endured repeated torturous abuse, suffering and pain,” Sheriff Rambosk said. “We are pleased that we, along with our partners with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Collier County Domestic Animal Services, have delivered them to a safe and healing environment and are bringing their abuser to justice.”
The animals are being cared for at the Collier County Domestic Animal Services.
