After an exhaustive campaign to evacuate ex-Royal Marine Pen Farthing, his staff and their immediate families and his nearly 200 rescue dogs and cats, defense personnel have confirmed the group has received clearance for their charter flight to return to the United Kingdom.
In a tweet, the Ministry of Defence confirmed the news:
“Pen Farthing and his pets were assisted through the system at Kabul airport by the UK armed forces. They are currently being supported while he awaits transportation.
On the direction of the Defence Secretary, clearance for their charter flight has been sponsored by the UK Government.”
Animal advocates have been following the news and blaming Defence Secretary Ben Wallace for changing their minds about the chartered plane Farthing had planned to use to evacuate his staff of 69 adults and children, the pets and other people approved to leave Afghanistan
According to the Sun, on Thursday the entire group was turned away from entering the airport after an attack by an ISIS-K suicide mission outside one of the hotels killing at least 110 people. Operation Ark is finally close to being a success.
The news for Farthing, his staff and the pets is sounding better. More to come.
