The City of Mobile Animal Shelter had been home to Bruno for more than six-months. No inquiries, no visits and when someone suggested meeting Bruno – one look at him solicited the, “uhh no thanks; do you have anyone else?”
When Bruno arrived at the shelter, he had been beaten and abused. His eye needed to be removed because it had literally been hanging by the nerves. His life was lonely. His limited interaction with the busy staff was when someone brought him his food twice a day. No one wanted a “broken or damaged” dog.
“Our poor Bruno was beaten with a metal pipe!! This baby has been through so much!! The vet had to remove his eye, but that doesn’t stop him from seeing all the wonderful things in life! He has nothing but love to give! Do you have room in your family for Bruno? He needs to go to a single dog only family! Please come adopt him!!”

Let’s face it; Bruno wasn’t cute. Bruno wasn’t fluffy, and a litany of more adoptable dogs marched by Bruno’s cage almost daily as they happily wagged their tails on the way to their new homes. Meanwhile, Bruno’s heart broke, and his spirit slowly slipped away.
Bruno really is a sweet dog and liked other dogs, although he did get protective in his kennel. He liked women more than men, but perhaps that was self-explanatory considering his past abuse.
The shelter described him:
“He walks really good on a leash, he knows sit. Due to one eyeball I would suggest older or no children, obviously he is going to need someone to restore his spirit. And love his flaws and all, someone who will be patient, and understanding that it’s not his fault that he doesn’t know the things that most dogs do.”

Only two-years-old and Bruno was so sad at the shelter. Even the staff and volunteers started to agree with Bruno – there just wasn’t much hope left in the world for dogs like him.
And then it happened. Bruno’s story hit social media, and someone saw his picture and fell in love. Today Bruno was adopted.
