FEMA funding denied to local animal sanctuary after TS Fred flooding

Admin

In Black Mountain, North Carolina, a local animal rescue and sanctuary has been denied FEMA funding even though more than $2.2 million has been approved for the western part of the state. Full Moon Farm Wolfdog Sanctuary’s property was hit hard by Tropical Storm Fred and suffered major damage to powerlines and extensive property flooding.

The sanctuary sits on 17 acres and currently is the home to 30 wolf hybrids that have been “abused and refused.” Some of the animals cannot be placed in homes and will remain at Full Moon Farm for the rest of their lives.

Since Covid, fundraisers for the organization have been limited, but founder Nancy LaPorta had been hopeful that funding from FEMA would help out with the necessary repairs needed.

According to News8, John Boyle, FEMA Federal Coordinating Officer agreed some people would get letters of denial, but that is part of the process. He stated there are other avenues to explore to find available money for repairs including SBA loans. If not qualified to obtain a SBA loan, FEMA will take another look at the situation.

Thinking about adopting one of these dogs? How about Luna?

Luna

“Hi!”Luna is still looking for her forever home. She’s smart, playful, fluffy, and loves people. She would make an excellent only dog or could live with a large, tolerant male dog. She’ll be 4 years old in March, but still has bursts of puppy energy. She needs 6 foot fencing with dig guards and to live in a legal area. We love her so much but she deserves her own family and all the attention she wants.
