In Monroeville, Pennsylvania, an 11-pound dog is on a long road to recovery after arriving at the Northern Pike Animal Hospital with her eyes sealed shut with superglue. It was feared the dog, dubbed Baby Girl, would lose her sight.
According to the rescue organization who stepped up to help, Paws Across Pittsburgh, the owner had taken the dog to the emergency veterinarian, but did not have the down payment of $3,000 to begin treatment. Arrangements were then quickly made, and the owner surrendered the dog to the rescue organization who immediately transferred her to their medical partners at Northern Pike Animal Hospital where Dr. Angie Thompson and her staff went to work applying mineral oil to break down the glue while slowly peeling away the fur from the pup’s face.
““It was a lot. It had to be at least one entire bottle of super glue based on how much was on her face,” stated Dr. Angie.
Although she has lost all of her eyelashes and the fur on her face around her eyes, it is expected her eyesight has been saved.
“The medical team worked on this Angel throughout the day and late into the evening. They have been able to get her eyes open. There are large ulcers on her eyes, but they are hopeful for her sight. She will be thoroughly checked for other potential injuries and will need dental work.”
It is not known who inflicted this torturous act of animal cruelty on this tiny dog, but an investigation has been launched.
After she recovers, Baby Girl is expected to be made available for adoption.
