Two puppies cruelly confined to a crate and starved for weeks were rescued by the Arrow Fund just one week ago. Animal Control officers discovered an adult female dog and her two puppies abandoned in a crate; their excrement had piled so high the dogs were barely visible.
Now named Lucy and Linus, the puppies have spent their first week of freedom receiving around the clock care. Their recovery is progressing, and they are being fed several small meals a day to help them gain weight. Some tests are still pending the results, but they are thriving and will soon be ready to move on to a foster home to complete their recoveries.
Sadly, the dogs survived their terrible ordeal locked in the crate by eating the three other deceased puppies. At the time of their rescue, the body scores of the puppies were assessed at “1.” The mother dog remains in the care of the local humane society and is also reported to doing well.
The owner of the puppies faces six counts of animal cruelty.
The puppies will be needing continued medical care. Donations can be made by clicking here.
