UPDATE: Injured and terrified puppy found lying on discarded mattress wearing cone

Admin

It had been on Wednesday morning when a call came into Stray Rescue of St. Louis concerning a “beat up” puppy needing help. The person calling had been too frightened to get close to the dog; rescuers were dispatched to the location, and there she was – a shaking puppy obviously in pain, wearing a cone and lying on a discarded mattress at the curb.

When rescuers approached the trembling puppy, they saw blood and knew she needed emergency help. She was rushed to the organization’s clinic where her she was sedated and her condition stabilized. The puppy had likely been attacked by a bigger dog, but she was lucky – her vital organs had not been compromised. Her injuries, however had ripped into her belly, leg, and her entire thigh. The most curious part, however had been the dirty cone she had been wearing.

Vet Team went to work on her immediately. Our skilled surgeon, Dr. Schulz, sewed in a fish skin graft, which should help rejuvenate her cells. Her skin can potentially regrow into the graft bed. It is in a tricky spot of her body that she is constantly moving, but we have very high hopes for this angel of a puppy. All she wants in the world is to be held and loved. And that’s what we tell her she’ll have for the rest of her life.

And today, more help came for the puppy dubbed Laelynn, which means “flower of hope.” Volunteer Randy Morgan came to her aid, and Randy and his wife Debi, who foster many of the pregnant dogs and often sponsor fundraising events, fell in love with Laelynn.

Randy has ordered more fish skin grafts to be used for Laelynn’s recovery efforts; what an amazing couple who love helping those who cannot speak.

Laelynn is doing surprisingly well as well. She had her blood transfusion and isn’t anemic anymore. Dr. Schulz said she can’t believe how quickly that happened. We said ‘Because she’s our miracle girl!’
