In a heartfelt story at the Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center in Ohio, a shelter volunteer captured a poignant moment as shelter pooch Juniper watched two volunteers stop at each kennel to give each dog a walk and some one on one time.
“Juniper just watched and waited. She didn’t bark. She didn’t make any noise. She just waited for her turn. Seeing her pleading eyes, I promised her that I would not leave until she got her walk. She did and she kept looking up at me with such appreciation.”
Volunteer Laurie G. Smith
What must dogs think who are locked in shelter cages and if lucky can get one walk outside in the sunshine (or the rain) to break up the boredom? Dogs don’t read nor do they watch television. Dogs depend on their “people” to inspire them, to be companions to them and to love them. Although people have different places to go everyday, their dogs patiently wait until they return – their loyalty melt our hearts.
And then we think about the life of a shelter dog?
“It’s sad and I imagine lonely. I don’t know why she ended up there. She looks like she was bred too many times and then tossed out like she didn’t matter. She matters!”

We are hoping that Juniper’s life will soon change. Please share her story with friends, family, social media friends and approved rescue organizations. Sharing saves lives. This pup is waiting to be adopted.
