42 dogs and puppies rescued from ‘one of the worst breeders in the country’

Admin

This week, 42 dogs and puppies were rescued from what is described as “one of the worst breeders in the country.” The Humane Society of Missouri’s (HSMO) Animal Cruelty Task Force (ACT), in coordination with local authorities, rescued the dogs from Cedarcrest Kennel on December 6.

The kennel, operated by Marilyn Shepherd, is well known as a substandard breeder and it has been targeted multiple times because of violations from the Missouri Department of Agriculture. According to a news release from the Humane Society of Missouri, the latest situation has resulted in the permanent revocation of Shepherd’s breeder license.

The dogs rescued from the breeding operation include Irish Terriers, Schnauzers, Cairn Terriers, Yorkies, and other breeds; their ages range from newborn to adult.

HSMO President Kathy Warnick said:

“This is an egregious case involving one of the most horrific breeders. Cedarcrest has continually violated MDA’s requirements, and the dogs she has bred have suffered terribly because of her negligence. She may be one of the worst we’ve dealt with in terms of caring for well-being of the animals in her possession, not to mention the ongoing blatant disregard for federal and state laws. The dogs and their pups now have a chance to finally live a normal life instead of being forced to produce litter after litter of puppies for profit.”
