Ukrainian families fleeing country with their children and pets

In a deadly Russian assault on Ukrainian cities on Thursday morning, thousands of families carrying their belongings, their children and their pets have been fleeing the country. Some people were able to flee using their cars amid huge traffic jams while other people rushed to the subway stations and bus routes holding their dogs and cats in carriers or on their laps.

Still other people embraced their families to say goodbye; others just rushed to get tickets just to escape the area – not even knowing where they could be heading.

According to the Washington Post, animal rescue Casa lui Patrocle, located in the city of Suceava, 25 miles from the Ukraine border has been helping families with their pets.

The Association of Patrocle Suceava officially announces its support and assistance given to the families from Ukraine entering Romania through Vama Siret accompanied by animals, NO MATTER WHAT THEY ARE. We are in Suceava, 40 km away. distance from the border with Ukraine. We will do all our human efforts to find housing, shelter and veterinary assistance solutions for animals that need support, we repeat – regardless of the species (dogs, cats, cabalines, bulls, cattle, birds). The safety of the people is now the priority of the authorities. But through the profile of our activity for Animal Protection, we also prioritize the fate of collateral victims, of those who need help.

Many families have been fleeing to Poland, and social media has been reported the number of people on foot has been increasing. Russian military invaded Ukraine by land, air and sea on Thursday morning. Reports of more than 100,000 people have been leaving their homes – some leaving most of their belongings behind holding their pets and children.

Russian troops have declared martial law, as Putin warned other countries not to attempt to interfere. Countries around the world have condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “brutal act of war” with the United States announcing harsher sanctions.
