Update 3/2/2022: According to the shelter, this dog is “rescue pending.”
Staff at a South Carolina animal shelter are heartbroken for a senior dog, who was found guarding his deceased owner’s body. According to the Orangeburg County Animal Control and Shelter, the Labrador retriever sat outside by his owner’s body for seven days…refusing to leave, even for food or water.
The animal welfare agency said:
He was found guarding his deceased owner outside. No food no water no care for at least seven days while he patiently waited for help.
Though food, water, and care are no longer an issue, the senior dog is reported to be “uncomfortable” at the shelter. The shelter explains:
He is uncomfortable in our shelter, crated in the hallway, full of loud noises, frantic barking and unfamiliar voices. No family has come.
Adding a request for help for their “frosted” face boy who needs to be rescued.
