An 18-year-old cat named Holly is “angry and confused” after being surrendered to an animal shelter in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Holly’s owner went to assisted living and now Holly needs somewhere new to live, and be loved.
On Thursday, the Lucky Day Animal Rescue shared Holly’s photo and a bit of insight into what she is going through:
She lived with one owner and sadly that person had to go into assisted living and Holly has been angry and confused- rightfully so.
Holly is also front declawed which makes us go extra slow because declawed kitties will use their next and only defense left- their teeth. Holly also packs one heck of a punch in those Paws and has left us know many times when we accidentally got too close.
Staff is letting Holly settle in and dictate how things proceed. She seems to be relaxing in their care. But the staff has a word of advice for other pet owners, writing:
Please make sure you have plans for your furry family members in the event you can no longer care for them. So many get taken to shelters and animal controls and it is so confusing for them and just so sad.
And a stern word about declawing:
Also PLEASE never ever dwclaw your kitties. They need their claws and it is a cruel procedure which is actually 10 (or 20 if all 4 paw declaws) individual amputations which would be equivalent to losing your finger to the first knuckle. Now imagine having to walk on the amputation for the rest of your life, dig in litter etc.
