In Southampton, New York, the police rescued a stranded seal lying in the middle of the road early on Sunday morning. As police arrived, the frightened seal fled towards a nearby motel. Officers were able to capture the juvenile harbor seal and bring it to the New York Marine Rescue Center for evaluation and treatment if needed.

Earlier today Southampton Town 911 dispatchers received a call about a seal in the roadway at the traffic circle in Riverside. Some of our officers responded and found a baby harbor seal in the roadway near the Budget Host Inn. Our officers were able to detain the seal until the seal was taken into custody by the Riverhead Foundation
The seal is expected to be released as soon as he gets the all clear health check.
