At the Stray Rescue of St. Louis, the very special five-pawed puppy Gema (now known as Roo) stopped by on Monday with her mom to say hi and amaze everyone at how big she has grown. This special puppy stole hearts from across the globe nearly two years ago, and even though she grew up different, another special underdog was given the chance to live, to flourish and to bring smiles wherever she goes.
Roo, a Great Dane mix, was born with a fifth paw attached to one of her front legs. When she arrived at the rescue, she was only three-months old and three times smaller than her siblings. The puppy’s original owners called the rescue for help, and they decided to surrender the pup.
At Stray Rescue of St. Louis, we exhaust all efforts to provide the medical care every animal needs, regardless of cost. We believe every soul deserves the chance to live a life of love and comfort, and we will stop at nothing to give them that chance.

Roo doesn’t know she is different than other dogs. From the start, she loved to play even though she tired quicker than some of the other dogs, however she developed excellent balance and coordination skills as she became quite adept at using her back legs. At times, she can stand up on her hind legs like a kangaroo.
At this point in her life, Roo does not need a cart:
She gets around the house and yard just fine. She can go up and down stairs. She jumps up and down from the couch! She’s amazing! We do have wheels donated from Joey’s PAW if there ever became a time when she couldn’t get around on her own.

In the spirit of “giving back” Roo loves to help her family foster puppies.
“She can even walk on her hind legs! You are an amazing inspiration Roo! You can do anything you put your mind to, little one.”

Live a long and wonderful life Roo. Many thanks to Stray Rescue of St. Louis for giving this amazing puppy every chance she needed to succeed.
