Meet Pepper – a two-year-old border collie whose ingenuity has all of us impressed, after she managed to catch a bus on her own after she became lost while chasing some geese. Pepper had been out for a walk in Fairlands Valley Park in Stevenage, Herts, when she disappeared.
According to the Daily Mail, Pepper who had been rescued two years ago as a puppy, ran away from her from the woman taking her for a walk. Pepper’s owners, Charlotte Jones, 25, and Saffron Caps, 23, searched for their dog with no success, and then appealed to social media for help.
And here’s the amazing part of the story, guaranteed to make you smile and perhaps wonder just how smart this dog really is? Pepper wasn’t anywhere around in the area where she got lost, because she had already walked three miles to the bus station and hopped on the No.7 Arriva service. Fifteen minutes later, Pepper jumped off at her stop when the bus doors opened. And then she waited with a new human friend, for her family to come for her – everyone including Pepper finally reunited and relieved.
The Good Samaritan who had seen the plea for help finding Pepper had spotted the dog getting on the bus, recognized her and contacted the owners with the dog’s photo. It is also worth mentioning that Pepper had been familiar with the route home since she had taken it several times with her humans in the past – but remembering it and where to get off the bus has to have been amazing.
The bus driver spotted the dog getting on the bus, but figured her owners were behind her, until the passenger said she was going to accompany the dog home until her owners came to meet them.
Charlotte was indeed very proud of Pepper and her ability to have found her way home describing it as a Lassie kind of adventure.
