A faithful Akita named Reini made the news after she was seen waiting for the return of her original owner in front of her home, unaware that her beloved owner had been raped and killed in a house next door in Makariv in the province of Kyiv after the Russian invasion.
According to Anton Gerashchenko, adviser to Ukraine’s internal affairs minister, posted photos of the dog on Twitter which quickly went viral. Volunteers had been trying to move the dog from her home, but the faithful pooch just wanted to wait for the return of her beloved human who was never to return. Neighbors brought food and clothes for the dog, and finally she started to show an interest in a new family.

Good news! Akita Reeny from Makarov has found a new home and her people. Her owner’s name is Nadezhda. The family knows how to take care of this breed, as they already have an Akita boy and they became friends with Reeny.

According to Msn.com, Reini became known as the “Hachiko of Makariv” – a symbol of the loyal Akita in Japan that never stopped returning to the train station years after his owner died suddenly of a heart attack.
