At Austin Pets Alive! a Great Pyrenees was rescued after having spent more than a year with a too tight rope painfully digging into his neck. Upon his arrival at the rescue, the two-year-old dog had to be transferred to the intensive care section of the organization’s Medical Triage and Wellness Center for the severe infection and surgery needed to repair the damage from the tightly embedded rope.
According to the rescue organization, when Wesley arrived, he desperately hoped no one would look his way. He needed lots of medical care and lots of patience.
Wesley had lived with a group of roaming dogs all this time, in immense pain and wary of humans. A concerned community member alerted the city that the dog needed help, and Wesley made it first to Austin Animal Center, where the rope was removed. And then it was onto Austin Pets Alive! and the happiest ending any rescue organization could ever want.
And all of this miraculous change took place within a few weeks!
But first:
…at first reluctantly, with our staff member, Alex who helped not only heal his wound, but is responsible for healing his displaced trust in people, too.
Alex showed up for Wesley day in and day out, patiently showing this injured soul that people can be good and offer love. Gradually, trust was gained and these two formed a friendship that will last a lifetime.

In a few weeks after his arrival, his neck wound healed and so has his heart, thanks to Dog Placement Matchmaker, Alex. After continued visits, cuddles, and cheesy treats, Wesley turned into the sweetest dog ever.
Already, there had been a line of fosters and people offering to adopt him calling and emailing the organization.
It had been on Instagram when Wesley’s new owners spotted his story. Bryan Corralejo and Victoria Montemayor from Pflugerville, Texas watched the dog’s progress, and when it was announced he would soon be ready to be adopted, the couple reached out.
The couple already have three senior dogs and have been through lots of medical needs. No doubt Wesley is living the best life ever now.
