Saddest senior dog left tied to a pole at humane organization late Saturday night

Admin

The Harbor Humane Society in West Oliver, Michigan is hoping to speak to the individual who left a senior dog tied to a pole last night. Video footage shows the person arriving with the dog at 7:53 p.m.

“Gentle Ben” as he has been named was found in the morning as the staff arrived. At the very least, if this person had looked around a little bit more, he could have put the dog in covered outside run. He has been given a bath, had a visit with the veterinarian and is receiving lots of love and attention.

We are looking to speak to the individual who dropped this dog off last night. When this person saw we were closed, they tied it up to the outside pole and left. We don’t know if this dog was a stray or if this was this person’s dog. If you are this person or know this person or have information, please email us at [email protected] or call us at 616.399.2119×119. If this dog is a stray, it is really important we get all the information needed in order to help reunite the dog with his owners.

While it is appreciated that Gentle Ben wasn’t just abandoned in the middle of nowhere, it is important to get information about the animals placed in the care of the organization. There is a charge to surrender a dog, there are always rescuers willing to listen and work with people and their particular situations.

Good Morning from Gentle Ben! Although his eyes look sad, Gentle Ben is feeling okay. We estimate his age to be between 10-12 years old. We appreciate all the inquires on Gentle Ben and adopting him. At this time, he is on stray hold for 4 days and then most likely will be a medical foster with our staff while we make sure he is as healthy as an old boy can be. Once again, we are still looking to speak to the individual who left him in our care, as we do have some questions.

Harbor Humane on Facebook

Generous and kind readers have been asking how they can help Gentle Ben and the other animals. Any donation helps go towards the care of Ben and the other 382 animals that are currently in Harbor Humane’s care. This includes over 180 kittens in foster and close to 30 dogs and puppies in foster.

Harbor Humane is open from 7:30 a.m. to at least 7:30 p.m. Even if the admitting desk is not open, they will always take in stray animals or animals in emergency situations if staff is present. If it is after hours, please call the non-emergency number for the Ottawa County Sherriff Department at 1.800.249.0911. In this case and in talking to the Animal Control Officers, if this person had called them and said they were at our facility, they could have sent an officer. All officers have access to our building.
