Update on ‘Oreo’ chained and dragged behind car rescued in Ohio

Admin

Just one week ago, in Youngstown, Ohio, the Youngstown Police Department were called to a location on the East side of the city on Sunday after receiving a report about a dog chained to the back of a car and dragged down the road.

According to the Animal Charity of Ohio, their humane agent arrived at the scene a short time after police. Eyewitnesses explained how they saw the dog named Oreo being dragged behind a car moving 35 miles per hour. Oreo had been dragged approximately 100 yards and then moved and chained in the backyard.

And in spite of her injuries and the cruelty inflicted upon this sweet pup, Oreo never stopped wagging her tail and seemed genuinely relieved and grateful as the humane agent cuddled her in her arms. She was rushed to a veterinarian where she was sedated and has had her injuries cleaned. She has at least two broken toes on each paw, and her paws have been degloved with abrasions on all four legs – her rear leg most severely injured. The road rash on her abdomen caused considerable bleeding.

As reported, Oreo’s paws are still very painful and she is carried outside for her bathroom breaks and then carried back. She is being closely monitored and administered pain medication as needed to keep her comfortable.

Oreo’s hero and best friend, Jess, our humane agent, stopped by to check on her and spend some with her on her day off. Being a voice for the companion animals of Mahoning County is a 24/7 job for all of us at Animal Charity.
