A Florida man was arrested and is facing charges after four dogs were found locked in a hot shed, without food or water, in conditions the Lee County sheriff referred to as “hellish.” According to multiple sources, 23-year-old Donte Sweeting of Lehigh Acres was arrested earlier this month after an “anonymous hero” alerted the authorities about the dogs in the shed.
Sheriff Carmine Marceno commented on the situation:
“These dogs were subjected to hellish conditions while their owner, 23-year-old Donte Sweeting went to work. And went about his day without a care in the world,”
The sheriff has vowed to fight to keep Sweeting from getting the dogs back. As reported by WINK News, Marceno stated:
“I’m not going to allow that to happen … My legal team will go through the courts. We will petition the courts. And we will fight to keep those dogs from going back to those conditions. And once that process begins, he’s not able to take those dogs and they stay at Domestic Animal Services.
“It’s not just making an arrest. It’s making certain that those dogs don’t go back to those horrific conditions,”
The dogs rescued from the shed, ranging in age from one-to-10 years, are in the care of animal services.
