What a surprise this week when a missing dog named Jolie, appeared on a beach in Aguilas near the southeast city of Murcia in Spain and was brought to the local police station by Good Samaritans.
According to noudiari.es and the local police Instagram account, Jolie had fallen overboard during a storm. What’s absolutely remarkable is Jolie swimming for “two days” to reach dry land. She was returned to her owners by police, who never thought their sweet dog could have survived the storm and the ocean.
When she was discovered, officers were able to track her owners via a microchip that had been inserted while in Denmark. Police had already been aware and on the lookout when family members had reported Jolie missing after the storm while they had been headed to Ibiza.
That daughter was sailing in the Med with her husband and dog Jolie and were heading for Ibiza and were caught up in a storm that lead to Jolie falling in the sea. They tried to find it and rescue it but to no avail. Thanks to the microchip it was confirmed the animal that had reached Aguilas was Jolie, the same dog that fell into the sea.
Jolie is a real survivor. It’s estimate she could have been swimming one of two days to reach the coast. A lovely ending for an incredible survival story.

Not to shock readers, but there are more than 160 nautical miles separating Aguilas on the Spanish mainland from Ibiza, although it is not clear where the dog fell overboard. (nautical mile = 1.151 miles)
