UPDATE: Reward up to $15K for information about duct-taped dog found in dumpster

A heartwarming story emerged from Omaha one week ago, but with a disturbing twist. A missing dog was found alive after having been discovered wrapped in duct tape and thrown in a dumpster. Thankfully, the canine’s ordeal has a happy ending, but the Nebraska Humane Society (NHS) continues to search for answers.

There have been no leads in the case; on Friday PETA offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction on cruelty charges for the responsible person(s). The previous reward offered by the Nebraska Humane Society has increased to $10,000.

Employees at an Omaha accounting firm became heroes by accident. On April 14th, they heard noises coming from a dumpster behind their building. Unnerved by the commotion, they waited until the next day to investigate. Expecting to find a stray animal, they were met with a horrifying sight; a small dog completely wrapped in duct tape. The receptacle was scheduled to be emptied by the trash service soon after animal control was called.

The dog, a young cavapoo, was identified as Leo from his microchip and belonging to Erin Dillon-Pasillas who said he had disappeared from her yard on April 11. The duct-tape has been sent to the Sheriff’s Office for analysis. He was rushed to the Nebraska Humane Society where staff sedated him and then removed the tape.

As for Leo, he is slowly feeling better. He is currently being treated for ear infections and for the rash around his snout where the duct-tape pulled on his tender nose and mouth areas.

The NHS is urging anyone with information to come forward. They are hopeful that a witness or someone with knowledge of the incident will help bring the perpetrator to justice.

The dumpsters behind the business, Sweet and Associates, are isolated, and there are no cameras in the vicinity. Anyone with information on this case is urged to contact Animal Control at 402-444-7800 ext 1.
