Ten puppies drowned when high waters from a devastating rain storm swamped a Missouri rescue on Monday night. The puppies were at the Stray Paws Rescue in St. Peters when a flash flood overtook the building. The water inside of the facility was so high that the large dogs were covered up to their chest; rescue president Linda Roever told KSDK News that when staff arrived, everything was “pretty much floating.”
Before anyone could reach the building, it was clear that the dogs inside were in danger. The rescue group posted:
SOS THIS IS THE STREET OUR BUILDING IS ON‼️ Firefighters/rescue teams with boats are on the way to assess the situation with our animals. Highways are closed. Roads are closed. We are distraught. PRAYERS needed. FOSTERS needed. DONATIONS to fix this damage will be needed.
And after reaching the building, the news of the puppies’ demise was shared:
Update: Adult dogs are okay. Sadly the puppies did not make it, the water levels were too high. Fly high little ones 🌈 Our hearts are breaking.
The surviving dogs have been taken to Animal Talk Medical Center for care. The rescue group plans to rebuild. You can support their efforts by making a donation.
