This is Champ! He was pulled from a shelter after 11 days in January and brought to the Illinois based It’s a Pittie Rescue. His condition was critical. He had heartlessly been abandoned by his owner in the shelter parking lot; temperatures had dipped to -30, he suffered from wounds all over his body and had been wrapped in plastic wrap.
As if that wasn’t enough suffering for any dog, he also had a bone lodged in his esophagus, and to think he sat in the shelter for nearly two weeks in that condition. Fortunately, four-year-old Champ was able to undergo surgery which saved his life.
Champ has been one resilient pooch and holds no animosity against anyone. He is currently with his foster mom, and she couldn’t wait to share some of Champ’s loveable traits which hopefully will give this boy a better chance of finding his forever home.
So here we go:
He loves being near us, specifically on our lap. Yes, he’s a lap dog.
Enjoys chewing on his Nylabone and challenging his stuffed animals to a fight till the end.
Cooperative when putting drops in his ears and petting all over his strong cutsie body. He has quite the physique.
Crate trained, goes right in and will sleep like a baby.
Responsible to be left in his room outside his crate with no remodeling needed, at least thus far.
Excited about life, and expresses himself by jumping up to plant kisses on your face.
Pulls a bit on walks but I believe in time he will calm down when he understands he gets to do this every day.
He is curious of his surroundings, bunnies, squirrels, strange dogs in passing. Needs a little more work.
Good boy towards his foster fur siblings through the gate as well as on walks.
Perfected the command “sit” but still working on other commands. He drives a hard bargain, and will need a better, high value treat. But there is hope.
He enjoys the yard, but pretty efficient in doing his business and making a couple of rounds around the perimeter, but runs back into the house.
He loves hanging with his people so he would do well as an only child. But, more to come after we officially dog/ cat test him.
