At the Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California, Eros has a story to tell, and as heartbreaking as it was numerous times, being a resilient pup proves try, trying again, brings a happy ending.
Eros arrived at the shelter after he had been found at a homeless camp when his owner had been arrested. Now get this – Eros had been adopted three times since, but each time his new families didn’t work out, and back he went to the shelter. In one adoption, the family said Eros had too much energy. In the second home, another dog had already claimed his kingdom as his own, and no matter how hard Eros tried, the other dog wouldn’t accept him as a family member.

And then the third adoption attempt really broke his heart. That morning Eros was so excited to be going to his new home, but by the end of the day, after he had been returned again, he was back in his kennel “through no fault of his own.”
Shelter staff have continued to do everything possible to keep Eros calm. As the shelter stress got to him, he could be seen panting and spinning in circles and jumping from wall to wall.
Wishes do come true! Just recently Eros was adopted, and this fourth time is a charm. His new family understands him and what this sweet boy has been through. And this time – he has a new buddy in the house who loves him already.
This successful adoption serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible pet placement and the transformative power of opening your heart and home to a shelter animal. Valley Animal Center extends their deepest gratitude to the adopter who chose Eros and to everyone who shared his story.
Eros’ adoption journey may be over, but countless other animals await their turn at finding loving families. Valley Animal Center encourages the community to continue supporting their mission and consider adopting a pet in need. Remember, every adoption makes a difference!
