In Clare County, Michigan the animal shelter was able to finally capture Zaria, after she became stranded on Hayes Township’s Cranberry Lake for nearly a month. The brown and white Great Dane had slipped her collar, ran away and jumped into a nearby canal. She had been stranded on the island since August 17. Local Animal Control, Sheriff’s Department and many local residents tried to bring Zaria to safety without success.
Volunteers and professional trackers had tried to capture the dog, but she repeatedly eluded baited traps left in the area where she had been spotted.
Moore’s K9 Recovery had been working together to help trap the pooch and set up a plan with animal control. There were multiple traps on the island, and cameras had been set up to watch for Zaria as she neared the traps. She has shown interest in the traps and also seemed to be curious about the tracker dogs she had seen.
On Wednesday, the Clare County Animal Shelter posted on their Facebook page that Zaria had been captured. She was examined by Dr. B. at Surrey Veterinarian and cleared to start her slow recovery process where she will be fed several small meals during the day until her body can adjust to being fed again.
She has been sleeping since she arrived…
