The SafeHaven Humane Society in Tangent, Oregon tells us to grab a tissue for Waylon’s story, but fear not, it’s a story to bring all of us hope along with tears of happiness.
Waylon had been the shelter’s longest term resident. The highly intelligent and athletic pooch loved to learn and loved to please. He has always craved mental stimulation and purpose, which means he needed his mind occupied with interesting information so he didn’t get bored.
It was decided long ago that Waylon needed a dog savvy person where he would be the only pet; having a large fended yard would certainly have been a plus too.
And yes, four-year-old Waylon is a special dog. When taken to meet new people he would need to be carefully supervised and sorry, no doggy parks for this guy for awhile even though he has been playing in small controlled dog play groups. His favorite playtime activity – chasing. It’s just been so wonderful to watch Waylon just being a dog.
Never forget, however Waylon’s shining attributes – he will love his human. it’s just that it takes time for Waylon.
If Waylon’s story were to be streamed, it wouldn’t be on Disney. Maybe Starz, but probably HBO. Be prepared to stop in several times to slowly meet this boy and nurture a genuine connection with him. Waylon is looking for a hero…
But fear not. Fairytales do come true. Waylon, the longest term resident who was with the rescue organization “for 2 years and 5 days” went to his forever home And as you can see, he was all smiles with his new mom.

And folks, this story even gets better. We have an update, and we couldn’t be prouder or happier for Waylon and his mom.
We thought you all would like an update on Waylon! Waylon is doing amazing in his new home! He has settled down and loves to go on car rides where he always sits shot-gun. His new mom says he loves playing with his stuffies, hasn’t had a potty accident once and doesn’t make a peep at night. Sounds like Waylon found his forever home! We couldn’t be more excited that after 2 years in our shelter, Waylon found his family.
