Orlando evacuees rescue drowning baby deer during Hurricane Ian

Admin

In Orlando, Florida, a man and his roommates rescued a drowning baby deer during the worst part of Hurricane Ian on Friday as the storm raged up the middle of the state causing massive and unexpected flooding.

Owen Fletcher, who lived near University Boulevard, spotted the baby deer struggling to stay afloat. The men waded out into the quickly rising waters and brought the baby deer onto their balcony to keep her safe. When they were told to evacuate, they wrapped the baby up and took her to the Lake Nona area where they intend to release her.

The stories of Good Samaritans saving wildlife and domestic pets have made all of us feel a little better despite the destruction and property loss caused by the recent hurricane. Just two days ago in Bonita Springs, Mike Ross spotted a cat perched atop of an air conditioner unit while water around it continued to rise. Mike ran outdoors, grabbed the frightened cat named Ross, hugged him tight and brought him to safety.

We will have lots more tales of rescuing those who cannot speak during the week. We never get tired of reading about heroes and hope you never get tired of reading about them.
