At the Wayne County Humane Society, too often staff members and volunteers see pet owners surrendering their pets to the shelter. How is a dog expected to understand? Perhaps it’s the slight bend of a dog’s head not understanding how his owner is leaving him behind? Perhaps it’s the confusion when a stranger leads him the opposite way he entered the shelter? Perhaps it’s the heartbreak because he knows – yes he knows.
And just days ago, at the Wooster, Ohio shelter, a two-year-old pup went into a full fledged panic attack when he watched his owner leaving. The video was shared to TikTok by Joe Kay @adoptingdogs, who had been at the shelter when Bailey was surrendered.
Check out the heartbreaking clip:
Thankfully Joe Kay was at the shelter as Bailey’s entire world shattered in those few moments watching out the window as his owner left the building and was getting into his car ready to drive away. Kay comforted the dog, promising the dog it “would be a new chapter in his life” and he would find a family who deserved Bailey’s love.
The video went viral and has garnered more than 1.2 million views. Followers shared their sentiments, and most were sure Bailey would find love again with a more deserving family.
This breaks my heart so much but if they’re willing to do that then he deserves a better home. I literally have tears in my eyes.
