It was the United States Coast Guard who performed an incredible rescue effort after a family’s dog had run into the water near Black Sands Beach in California last week, and the owners called for help when they could no longer see him.
The German Shorthair Pointer was no where to be found, but his human family remained calm and called the Coast Guard for help. Even strong swimmers can be pulled out to sea when currents are strong, and the water is cold.
It was the crew from Station Golden Gate who responded quickly and found the pup paddling along, but it was in all probability he was tired from trying to stay afloat and fighting the strong current. Temperatures in the water at Black Sands Beach registered at 54 degrees.
Once the dog spotted his rescuers, he started paddling towards their boat and was grateful they pulled him onboard. Taking no chances he could or would jump back into the water, the men wrapped him in a blanket and brought him back to shore where he was reunited with his family.

It just doesn’t get any better when it comes to saving our beloved dogs – even if our pups make an occasional poor judgment call.

Station Gate responded to the distressed dog after its owner called and stated that their dog had ran into the water and had since lost sight of the dog.
Station launched in short order and rescued the stranded dog and safely returned the pup to its owner!
