As the temperatures in St. Louis plummeted below freezing, a young dog later dubbed “Little Toes” shivered in the cold. The sleet had fallen all night on Monday, and somehow the pup had wound up living next to a trash can for days. She was just so cold though, and she couldn’t stop shaking.
Fortunately, someone with a kind heart notified Stray Rescue of St. Louis and asked for help rescuing the hungry and cold dog who likely had been abandoned by her family. Maybe she was waiting at the same place where she was left and had stayed in that spot waiting for her family to return?
Rescuers soon arrived, but Little Toes was so scared; she hesitated before approaching the kind people. The organization’s lead rescue officer, Donna Lochmann knew just what to do to win over the little pooch who needed to trust again – never forget the power of those Vienna sausages to attract a lonely, hungry pup.
Although she shook when we approached, she dug deep and mustered the greatest courage. Not only was she so grateful to be warm, but she was completely exhausted. She fell asleep in our laps on her freedom ride.

We named her Little Toes because her little toes were so cold .
According to the caller, she’s been laying in this pile of trash and he thought she was injured. She was out in the cold and sleet all night and she fell asleep on our laps. This perfect girl deserves better. We hope someone wonderful can come foster our Little Toes today.
And for everyone else, we hope you’ll consider making a donation. These little babies are so miserable out in the cold: Strayrescue.org/donate
