Young German shepherd’s final plea to save her life at overcrowded California shelter

Admin

Since September 20, 2022, this beautiful two-year-old German shepherd has been at the Carson Animal Shelter. The final plea to save her life from humane euthanasia has been issued by the shelter. Everyone wants Marie to be rescued and find a loving home; the problem is no one has arrived at the shelter to adopt her.

… We at the Carson Animal Care Center are reaching out to you to see if you are in any position to assist with pulling “Marie”. She is a 2years old spayed German shepherd (75 pounds) that came to us as a stray on 09/20/22.

Marie knows tricks like sit, down, shake, come, and likes belly rubs!

She came to the shelter two months ago as a stray and she was already spayed and in great condition. She definitely had a family at one time. She did well on her assessment but recently seems to be more anxious around men which could be a result of the time she has spent in the shelter. She has been given her final notice and dogs are being euthanized so she needs help fast, she is a beautiful girl!

Here’s what we know about Marie as told by the shelter volunteers and staff:

Handling Assessments

A5504497 (Altered): Marie

Marie was already in the play yard prior to her handling assessment. Once each of the dogs left, she was given time to decompress on her own. She approached the handler on her own and sniffed her leg. She had a low soft wag, soft eyes, a closed mouth, ears back and a neutral body posture. The handler pet her head and she became slightly more comfortable. The handler grabbed a hold of her leash. She was able to examine her ears, teeth, stomach, back-end, tail and front/back nails. Marie remained next to the handler with a soft and timid demeanor. She was tolerant of all handler but may need some confidence building.

Marie will be available for public adoption, it is required she go to a home with children middle school aged or older, large calm dogs are recommended.

It is also noteworthy to mention that when other dogs in the yard came over to her to exchange greetings, Marie submissively rolled on her back, but when other dogs tried to engage her in play, she gave a solid correction. She is rather shy and mostly keeps to herself while in the yard. She didn’t seek out any real engagement with the dogs, but quietly explored the play yard on her own.

Her handler noted as time passed, Marie had a neutral body posture, soft eyes, a low tail with a soft wag and an open pant. She may need someone to help build her confidence in new surroundings.
