On Thanksgiving Day, what had to have been a dying dog warrior somehow found the strength to walk, but no one could guess how. When rescued, he was little more than skin stretched loosely over his bones, and Stray Rescue of St. Louis rushed to his aid.
Street dogs are tough and full of adrenaline, giving them the will and the temporary extra strength to survive. Thanksgiving night had to have been the first time in a long time that the dog dubbed Wishbone by his rescuers, had been able to relax. Once his adrenaline abated, however he was too weak to even lift his head and refused to eat. Would Wishbone survive?
Wishbone was rushed to the emergency veterinary hospital where x-rays showed a large blockage in his abdomen. He needed emergency surgery, and there were doubts that such a starved and sick dog could even survive the operation, but there so often seems to be something very special about street dogs, and no one wanted to lose hope.
Check out when he was rescued.

On Friday, the rescue organization posted Wishbone’s update. He survived surgery! He survived the night!
It had been a very long and complicated surgery; a towel had been the blockage in his abdomen. The surgical staff monitored Wishbone closely throughout the night. For awhile, his life was “touch and go.”
Miracles do happen, and earlier Sunday morning, Wishbone, on a stretcher, headed to his regular veterinarian care facility where he will be carefully monitored and cared for until he is feeling and doing better. Yes, he has a long way to go, but it’s baby steps at the beginning.
