Flossie has been crowned the world’s oldest living cat by Guinness World Records. This feline sweetheart is the human equivalent of being 120 years old, and on Thursday, the brown and black kitty received the recognition at the record breaking 26 years and 329 days.
Flossie has trouble with her eyesight and is hard of hearing – doesn’t she sound like your grandmother, but besides those pesky indications of old age, the cat is reported to be in good health.
Flossie’s owner, Vicki Green adopted the elderly feline after she had been turned into a cat welfare charity Cats Protection in the UK in August. Green says Flossie is as sweet as can be and loves to be petted.
As for the kitty’s past life, it seems she had been in several homes since having been found as a stray kitten near Merseyside Hospital in Liverpool in 1995. A hospital worker adopted her, and for 10 years she lived with the woman until she died. Then she headed to the late woman’s sister where she lived the next 14 years of her life until that woman died. From there, she went to her second owner’s son for three years before being sent to the Cats Protection.
It was Flossie’s veterinarian records that showed her to be 27, and even though most adopters want younger cats, Vicki wanted to give an older cat a wonderful rest of life home. She hopes it inspires more people to adopt senior pets.
Good for you Flossie – live long and be happy. We are proud of you. If you could only talk, we would all love to hear the secret of living such a long life.
