Raccoon, stuck in tree with illegal trap on paw, rescued by humane agents

Idaho – A raccoon who stepped into an illegal trap suffered painful injuries and would have likely died if his plight had not been reported to humane agents with the Idaho Humane Society. According to the animal welfare agency, the raccoon had the trap firmly clamped onto his paw and he got stuck in a tree after running from a dog.

The agency said:

This poor guy dragged it around with him until the trap became lodged in a tree after the raccoon tried to escape a barking dog.

Humane officers took the injured raccoon to the shelter’s medical center where x-rays revealed several broken bones in his paw.

Fortunately, the raccoon’s injuries were limited to the broken paw bones and he is going to be okay. The animal was transferred to Animals In Distress Association & Ruth Melichar Bird Center where he will recuperate.

The shelter is hopeful that information about the illegal trap will be secured. They write:

Why this trap was placed is a mystery, and we are asking for your help in identifying who placed the illegal trap: please email [email protected] with any leads.
