Rescue mourns death of abandoned dog – $20k reward offered for information

Las Vegas, NV – A dog who had been struggling to survive after being found near death in November has passed away. The seven-year-old dog, dubbed Althea, was skin and bones when she was picked up in Las Vegas and taken under the wing of the Vegas Pet Rescue Project (VPRP).

Althea weighed in at just 23 pounds when she was found – and she showed clear signs of leading a dismal, cruel life. Her prognosis was guarded from the beginning, but she had moments where her will to survive appeared to be enough to help her overcome the odds.

Tragically, Althea’s frail body was unable to stave off the severe neglect, and pneumonia, and she passed away. Two days ago, the rescue group let Facebook followers know, writing:

We love you Althea. We tried so hard and so did you. We are so sorry you went through so much turmoil and neglect in your life. Run free now beautiful Angel and take your much needed deep breathes in heaven. We will never be the same now that we’ve lost you. You will always be in our hearts forever and ever. The pain and devastation we feel right now is beyond words. Thank you to all your supporters for their prayers and donations. The whole community fell in love with you just as we did. Your will to live was great but your body was just too tired.
