At the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County in Tacoma, Washington, a record number of community members stepped right in to help and celebrated 274 animals finding loving homes in just one week.
According to the shelter’s Facebook page, the shelter had to house two and three animals per kennel after a recent surge of intakes. The facility has 89 kennels and also had more than 100 dogs who are also being fostered in nearby homes to help with the ongoing crisis.
the situation demanded immediate action and the community responded with incredible genrosity.

And so it had been a week long adoption event where there were no adoption fees for adult dogs and cats and other small animals. The news about the event and the need to help the homeless animals, quickly went viral through the community; photos showed the crowds of kind-hearted community members lining up outside and inside of the shelter offering their help.
After the mega adoption event, more people came to the shelter to adopt or offer to foster, hoping to make it easier for the shelter staff and the animals, who by no fault of their own, found themselves at the shelter.
We put out the call for help, and our community ANSWERED!!
Happy Tails
To all 274 animals who found loving families this past week!
During the capacity adoption special ALONE, 100 dogs went to wonderful families. When we started our adoption special, we had over 100 dogs in the shelter and we are now at 40 dogs in the shelter! This relieves the immense strain on our outdated building, staff, and volunteers.
Congratulations to the pets and their families for Making Happy Happen here at the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County! We are so beyond grateful and proud of this amazing community who came out and made such a huge impact for our shelter and the pets in need of a loving home.
