Charleston, SC – A critically injured dog was abandoned in a cardboard box outside of a South Carolina animal shelter days before Christmas. According to Charleston Animal Society, the dog, dubbed Betty, was abandoned around 9:30 p.m. last Thursday and staff did not discover her at the shelter’s gate until 7:30 the next morning.
The animal welfare agency said:
When our surgical team found her at 7:30 am she needed immediate medical attention. If not for our team’s expertise and care she could have perished. She still has a long road to recovery and is being treated by our team. One can only imagine how much she suffered throughout that cold night alone in the dark.
According to the shelter, the case is under investigation.
This case is being investigated by police and if you have any information please contact the North Charleston Police Department at 843-740-2800 or Crime Stoppers and leave an anonymous tip at 843-554-1111.
Betty remains under veterinary care and she is eating and active.
