Microchips work: Alabama family reunited with lost dog after 2 years

Admin

A Daphne family has been reunited with their Coton de Tulear after two years since the dog disappeared. According to the City of Daphne Animal Shelter, the seven-year-old dog named Leroy escaped from the family home in May 2021, and in spite of extensive searches to find him, there were no clues as to where the dog had disappeared.

Let’s push ahead to Monday two years later; and a surprise call to the family from the Daphne Animal Control:

City of Daphne Animal Shelter

 A SWEET REUNION!!!!

Today Animal Control responded to a stray dog call…and he was microchipped!!!

His name is Leroy and he has been missing since May 2021!!!!

TWO YEARS!!!!

And now thanks to Animal Control and the power of microchips this family has been REUNITED!!!!

We can’t begin to stress the importance of microchipping your pets!!! Even if your pets are always inside or never outside unsupervised…

Accidents can happen! Collars or ID tags can break off!

But a microchip? There’s no shaking off that little bit of hardware!

A microchip could end up being the only thing stopping your pet from ending up, unclaimed, at an Animal Control facility!

Microchip your pets!!! And give a big hooray for Leroy finally being reunited with his family!!!

When Leroy was found, he had been running with another small dog – a mysterious stray terrier. Both were a mess, extremely matted and dirty when rescued. Had the dogs been on their own for up to two years? As for Leroy’s pal, now named Sherlock, his life remains a mystery:

Stray intake!!!

If you have any information about a potential owner please call 251-620-2802 so that Animal Control can begin an investigation into how this little guy ended up like this.

Also a big thank you to Foxy’s Groom Shop for coming to the rescue and helping to make this little guy’s first night with us a lot more comfortable!!!!!

As for being welcomed home, Karen Elleard, her husband and their children couldn’t be happier. Once home, the family groomed their dog and cut away some of the matted fur. Surprisingly, the veterinarian said their dog was healthy.

Had it not been for the microchip, it would have been very difficult to have found Leroy’s family. Please get your dog microchipped.

If interested in a pet that is on stray hold please message the City of Daphne Animal Shelter or visit our website daphne.shelterboss.com to request an application to fill out in order to be considered once the animal is available for adoption.
