In Westminster, Colorado, a missing Rottweiler named Bear was found running down U.S. Highway 36 last Thursday – that had been three years from when the dog was reported missing from his home in Texas.
According to the Westminster Police Department, officers responded to a call in the morning about the dog running along the highway. Officers arrived at the area and looked for the dog. A passing motorist, Jessica Lockard, also spotted the dog and quickly stopped her car to help the dog to make sure he didn’t get hit on the roadway. Jessica said the dog was very scared, however he didn’t seem or look aggressive, and she urged him into her vehicle. She drove Bear to the police station where his microchip revealed his identity.
And now the mystery how all this happened has been solved – just like a television drama, but maybe not as exciting as Blue Bloods since we all don’t get to sit down for the traditional Sunday dinner.
Three years ago, Bear had escaped from his yard in Texas, and his family thought someone had dognapped him. According to 9News, however, in an interview with Connie Howard, executive director of Foothills Animal Shelter, in 2020, Bear had been later picked up as a stray and taken to a shelter in Pecos, Texas. Obviously, the dog had not been scanned for a microchip, because Bear was soon adopted and given a new name by his new family. The couple later moved to Colorado.
And it might seem like Bear has an independent streak and likes to roam. Again, he seemed to have escaped and was spotted running along U.S. Highway 36 in Colorado on Thursday morning.
Fortunately for Bear, Jessica Misregadis, who had been driving to work, stopped to help the dog and made sure he wouldn’t be struck by traffic; and invited him into her car. That’s when Jessica drove the sweet and very friendly pooch to the police station where Bear was scanned, and his microchip led him back to the family who had lost him three years prior.
Bear has since been reunited with his family, but shortly after the dog had escaped from his current backyard, the people called everywhere to report him missing. When they contacted the Foothills Animal Shelter, presented their adoption papers and were told the news, of course the family was saddened, but thankful that Bear had been reunited with his rightful owners.
Meanwhile, Jessica was very happy Bear has finally found his family, but admits she did bond with this very special pooch. Many thanks to you Jessica – you’re an angel!
