Meet Goldie – this sweet senior is facing that long, lonely walk down the hall of the rural Nueces County Shelter in South Texas because no one has offered to either foster or adopt her. According to the shelter, her deadline is 6:00 pm on Thursday.
The shelter has not offered much information on Goldie except to note she weighs 64 pounds and is a senior. What they do include however, is the facility is overcrowded and animals will have to die because there is not enough room for new ones entering the shelter being found as strays, neglected or dumped.
Millions of dogs and cats are euthanized due to overpopulation; 6.3 million companion animals are in shelters every year, but only 3.2 million are lucky enough to be adopted. And most tragic of all – 1.5 million companion pets die in shelters because of overcrowding.
Owning a companion animal is a lifelong commitment. We can all do the basics – spay, neuter and make sure to carefully consider everything before bringing a pet home.
According to shelters nationwide as well as animal rescue organizations, irresponsible breeders are the main reason so many pets wind up at shelters. These people often breed dogs repeatedly and do not care where the animal ends up. There are so many puppies and kittens at shelters nationwide.
And as for Goldie, she needs help TODAY! Please share her plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives.
THE SHELTER IS LOCATED AT: 4540 FM 892.
