UPDATE: ‘Fire breathing demon dog’ Ralphie making progress with his training

Admin

At the Niagara SPCA in Niagara Falls, New York, Ralphie, the 26-pound black and white adorable pooch, has been making progress, according to his trainer. The pup, formerly labeled as a “fire breathing demon dog” is currently enrolled in Your Everyday K9 Dog Training Program.

Check out his YouTube video:

The video is demonstrating how Ralphie has been learning impulse control as his trainer uses a vacuum cleaner and a broom while Ralphie stays on his mat. Ralphie is very treat motivated, and you can see how he is rewarded for his patient behavior with a treat and then of course he gets to leave the mat.

We’re told he’s learning some impulse control around vacuums and brooms and they’re working on his reactivity in his crate. He has really great basic obedience skills which have made training easier. Chris said he’s very athletic, super treat motivated and kind of a fun guy. We concur. We also believed he had loads of potential and in the right environment, he’ll excel.

The agility, for anyone who is wondering, helps with creating a bond of sorts and expending energy. We’re also told Ralphie enjoyed some time out of the facility yesterday on a fieldtrip! We can’t wait to hear about all the things Ralphie is learning this week.

In cas you have not kept up with Ralphie’s story, in January, the animal welfare organization described Ralphie’s behavioral issues. When a woman stepped forward and said she could follow through with the training and discipline Ralphie needed, everyone thought he had finally met his perfect person.

AT FIRST GLANCE, HE’S AN ADORABLE HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER, YOUNG DOG. PEOPLE SHOULD BE BANGING DOWN OUR DOORS FOR HIM. WE PROMISE YOU THAT WON’T BE THE CASE. RALPHIE IS A TERROR IN A SOMEWHAT SMALL PACKAGE.

Two weeks later, Ralphie proved to be more than the woman could handle, which now brings everyone up to date. Ralphie is currently enrolled in the six week room, board and training program. Trainer Chris and pup Ralphie do seem to be doing quite well.
