At the Maricopa County Animal Care & Control, a tiny, black miniature poodle mix arrived at the shelter on April 19, 2023 in a terribly neglected condition. His legal hold ends on Saturday, and it is very important this little guy finds someone to help him or the heartbreaking alternative may be humane euthanasia at the shelter.
His medical notes include the following:
Dental: grade 2 dental tartar
Derm: generalized alopecia on trunk, skin appears normal
GI: distended abdomen with distinct fluid wave. Unable to palpate any abdominal organs due to this
Neuro: WNL M/S: WNL Urogenital: WNL A: intact geriatric male with age-related ocular changes, alopecia and probable ascites.
This senior is in need of a full work up and will need a follow-up with family vet for. Probable Cushings, hypothyroid, open. No surgery at MCACC. P: Dog needs outlet by COB on 04/23/23 or may be at risk for humane euthanasia on 04/24/23.
When the dog arrived at the shelter, he was carried up the ramp. He exhibited a soft body, seeked attention and received his vaccinations with light restraint. He was then carried to kennel.
Please share this little senior’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives.
