Tennessee dog rescued after falling over 50 feet into cave while chasing a raccoon

Admin

A hound dog named Shaker, from eastern Tennessee, certainly lost his latest raccoon chase on Monday night after he slipped in a wooded area and fell more than 50 feet into a cave.

According to the Bean Station Fire Department, Shaker caught the scent of the raccoon and of course, he was off! That was all going well until Shaker fell at least 50 feet down, and the dog’s owner, Jacob Reed stated his dog couldn’t move after the fall.

When the fire department arrived at 10:30 p.m., and with the assistance of Rutledge Volunteer Fire Dept and the Tennessee Mine Rescue Association were able to get the dog out safely. Rescuers used the trees as anchors and one of the men was able to rappel into the cave and slowly bring Shaker up to safety.

The lucky pup dog was not injured. As per the dog’s owner, Shaker was doing well and by Tuesday morning, the dog was eating and prancing around as if nothing happened.

Many thanks to all of Shaker’s rescuers. You are indeed heroes.
